Everyday, volunteer firefighters risk their lives protecting our property and our lives. The Westchester Independent Agents and the Westchester County Firefighters Assn have partnered to develop a scholarship to be awarded in Memory or Chief Robert Schnibbe.
Just over one year ago on March 3, 2006, Battalion Chief Bob Schnibbe passed away at an early age from a heart attack while at the scene of a house fire he was battling as a Volunteer Firefighter. Throughout his adult life, Bob was an Independent Insurance Agent who combined his passion for our industry with his love for the Volunteer Firefighters of Westchester and the surrounding areas.
We started a scholarship in his memory that would provide scholarships to the sons and daughters of Westchester Volunteer firefighters. These are men and women like Bob who volunteer their time , and often risk their lives for the benefit of all of us in their communities. They don't get paid for this, rather they do it out of their sense of duty and honor. Bob was a perfect example of a community volunteer.
We are all passionate about maintaining the quality of life in our towns and villages. As a result, we plan to give a college scholarship to a qualified child of an active volunteer firefighter from Westchester.
Fireman's Fund Insurance Company has provided a grant which will allow us to establish a 501c3 known as the Westchester Independent Insurance Agents Firefighters Scholarship Fund. As a 501c3 we will be able to apply for matching grants and allows us to do more effective fundraising.
We hope to award 2 scholarships of at least $1500 each to a son and daughter of a Westchester County volunteer firefighter each year.
Won’t you please make your most generous contribution to the IIAWC Westchester County Firefighters Scholarship Foundation, Inc.?
In addition to financial contributions to this Foundation, please help us get the word out by:
- Meeting with your local fire departments and to ensure the word has reached them.
- Bringing brochures to fire houses and asking them to distribute to friends, family, schools etc.
- Bringing brochures to local supermarkets, mom & pop stores or other places and asking these stores to distribute them for this worthy cause.
- Finding out about your local community events and ask to have a table to distribute literature.
- Speaking at town hall of chamber of commerce meetings.
Regards,
Todd
